Digestive Healing
Your guide to solving digestive problems
By now, you have probably learned how important it is to chew your food properly, not eat when stressed, and choose organic, chemical free, whole-foods. This article is about taking it a step further to explore the solutions for when the basics just aren’t enough, or entirely possible. We feel knowing how to incorporate the right supplements and foods are key to a truly healthy digestive system. While most of these recommendations offer a wide benefit and cross over to support all areas of digestive health, we’ve compiled this list to give you our top pics when dealing with the most common digestive troubles.
Gas, Bloating, Loose Stools, Heartburn, Reflux
A sign of low stomach acid. This means the food is only being partially broken down which releases gas as the food ferments. With adequate stomach acid, gases do not develop and the food will move timely out of the stomach to undergo proper nutrient assimilation. Supplementing with HCL during meals is the most efficient way we have found to solve this problem.
HCL is Hydrochloric acid which a healthy stomach is supposed to produce in adequate quantities to breakdown food. The body needs HCL in order to breakdown protein, absorb minerals, and kill pathogens. Supplementing with HCL can give the body a jumpstart on absorbing nutrients so it can eventually make its own HCL. Digestive enzymes are also helpful and are best taken before your meal while HCL is taken after or during.
Constipation
This ancient Ayurvedic formula, Triphala, is the most effective and safe solution we have encountered for maintaining bowel regularity. Triphala may also help to remove toxic material from the GI tract and promote healthy bacterial balance which is essential for regularity.
Oral magnesium has been commonly used to promote regularity and we caution against this! Magnesium is an intracellular mineral that causes muscle relaxation. High amounts of magnesium will cause the colon to relax and cause bowel movements. However, this interferes with normal peristalsis (contraction and relaxation of the gut) and can weaken and unbalance the gut in the long term. However, a little topical application of magnesium on the tummy is ok because it does not overwhelm the GI tract and simply addresses a possible deficiency and delivers the magnesium to the bloodstream where it is easily regulated.
Leaky Gut
It is common knowledge that a compromised gut is the root cause of most disease, especially when it comes to any type of auto-immune condition. Some experts have estimated that leaky gut affects 80% of the population!
Our best solutions are Colostrum and Goat Whey Protein. They contain a vast array of nutrients that support epithelium cells- the type of cell that line our digestive system (R). Dysbiosis and Candida Overgrowth
We will cover two fronts here, probiotics and antifungals. Fermented foods and probiotics are all the rage. Unfortunately, the majority of strains present in fermented foods and probiotics are not adapted to living in your gut and generally do not survive the digestion process to even have a chance. We have found a strain of probiotics that undergoes a 5-year fermentation and is never dried. This process produces pre, pro, and post-biotic nutrients necessary to facilitate a positive change in your gut microflora. Just like fermented foods, it’s not necessarily the actual organisms that provide the benefit, but the by-products and various compounds they make when actual fermentation is taking place.
Candida Albicans is a class of opportunistic, pathogenic yeast. The most common causes of an overgrowth can occur when the microflora are imbalanced from antibiotic use and/or excessive sugar is consumed. The most effective anti-yeast products we have observed are Pau D’ Arco, Immune Warrior, and Coconut. If you suspect a candida overgrowth, start slowly as you may experience a die-off which can may you feel rather sick as candida will release toxins when it dies.
