Qualifying Clean Supplements

Have you ever heard of the term “clean supplement?” If so, you’re in good company - that’s our thing!

But, if you still have questions, we’re here to help shed some light on a buzzword that, in all honesty, probably gets thrown around too much.

Check out this post and then if you still have questions about our products, get in touch with us at Hello@RawRevelations.com.

What Is a Clean Supplement?

To keep things as simple as possible, the broadest way to define a clean supplement is as one that uses minimal processing, simple ingredients (naturally sourced, commonly vegan and non-GMO), and has labels that are straightforward and easy to understand. Clean supplements also use few to no processed ingredients.

As a general rule, a clean supplement should be free of artificial colors, dyes, or flavors, and any other unnecessary additives. They are also often formulated so as to be easy to digest or absorb, and free of common allergens. Depending on the producer, they might also be formulated with highly bioavailable ingredients.

Taking it a step further, some clean supplements go beyond the ingredient list and may be made with recycled, recyclable or biodegradable materials. They might also take steps to limit their carbon footprint and overall environmental impact through the supply chain.

In addition, these supplements don’t just place an emphasis on the quality and purity of ingredients. They also place an emphasis on transparency, through multiple steps of the sourcing and manufacturing process, as well as what you can expect from the supplement.

Any provider of so-called clean supplements should have a good deal of information on its website, as well as on its products’ labels.

So, with that said, what can you look for in clean supplements?

What to Look for in a Clean Supplement (The Raw Revelations Difference)

As stated, there is more than one way to define “clean” insomuch as it relates to dietary supplements.

With that said, here are a few things to look for (which are differentiators for Raw Revelations’ products):

  • Vegan ingredients: Not only is the use of vegan ingredients more cruelty-free, but it also better serves the needs of a market that includes vegans.

  • No additives or fillers: Some supplements are made with additives and fillers that range from pointless to outright harmful. For instance, some supplements (that are not clean) contain titanium dioxide, a compound that imparts a bright white color. This can make the supplements look visually appealing, but fillers like these may be possibly carcinogenic. At the very least, they don’t impart any value to the supplement.

  • No gluten: It’s estimated that anywhere between 6% and 13% of the population may have gluten sensitivities. Given this, it makes sense to formulate supplements that are gluten-free so as to be more sensitive to the needs of a wider market.

  • No soy: Not to suggest that soy-based ingredients are negative across the board, as soy is full of protein and isoflavones. But at the same time, soy-related ingredients are associated with a variety of adverse health effects, especially when included as an additive in a supplement. Again it should be stressed that soy is not inherently unhealthy; just that soy-based products are not necessarily desirable in supplements.

  • Organic and non-GMO ingredients: Raw Revelations’ clean supplements are made with organic and non-GMO ingredients, guaranteeing that no harmful pesticides or other agents were used on the crops while in cultivation. There is a wide body of evidence suggesting that the consumption of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can result in undesirable health effects; among these are general toxicity as well as a heightened risk of allergic response.

  • No refined sugar: Refined sugar is often added to supplements to improve the taste, but this is undesirable in clean supplements. An entire article could be written on the risks of excess sugar consumption. Suffice it to say that sugar consumption in excess is associated with heart disease, the risk of developing diabetes, fatty liver disease, and cancer. There is even some evidence to suggest that sugar consumption may be linked to cognitive decline.

  • Our clean supplements are made in-house: This gives our team full control over quality assurance and purity.

  • Our products are third-party tested and GMP-compliant: Don’t just take our word for it. The quality and purity of our ingredients are assured by third-party accreditation.

This is just a brief list of some of the ways in which you can qualify our clean supplements, but there are others as well.
