Supercharge Your Mornings by Getting Into These Habits
Do you often find it difficult to drag yourself out of bed in the morning? Is your default mood, “meh”? If you often feel sluggish throughout the day and don’t feel inspired to seize the world, then it might be time to get into some healthy habits that will boost your energy, productivity, and overall well-being. Here are a few habits that can help set you on the right path:
Hack your sleep
The perfect day doesn’t start when you open your eyes in the morning; it begins when you go to sleep. There’s simply no replacement for a good night’s sleep, and depriving yourself of rest can only be detrimental to your mental and physical health.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends 7 or more hours per night of sleep for adults between 18 to 60 years of age. Unfortunately, there are some people who do get this much sleep each night but still wake up feeling tired. This is usually caused by poor sleep quality, which is also evidenced by waking up repeatedly during the night, snoring, or sleep apnea.
There are a few ways to get better quality sleep, though. The easiest one is to establish a consistent sleep schedule and commit to going to sleep at the same time each night. This helps regulate your body’s internal clock, making it easier to fall asleep and wake up naturally.
It can also be a good idea to limit your exposure to the blue light emitted by the screens of your computer, tablet, smartphone, or television. You’ll want to turn everything off at least an hour before bed, which will help you “unplug”.
Another way to get better sleep and wake up feeling refreshed is to take supplements. We recommend our Super Mucuna product, which is made out of organic mucuna pruriens powder and full spectrum mucuna pruriens extract. Mucuna is an adaptogen that can help support the way our bodies handle stress, which, in turn, promotes better sleep.
Change the way you drink coffee
Most people simply can’t imagine getting through the morning without their daily cup of joe. Did you know, though, that it’s decidedly not a good idea to consume caffeine first thing in the morning?
According to experts, drinking coffee on an empty stomach right after you wake up can mess up the levels of cortisol, also known as the stress hormone, in your body. This can leave you feeling more anxious and stressed. Additionally, your body is incredibly dehydrated when you first wake up. Caffeine is a diuretic that can further exacerbate that.
So before brewing your first coffee of the day, consider drinking a glass of water first. You may also want to think about drinking your coffee between 10 a.m. and noon to keep from crashing.
Alternatively, you may want to switch your coffee to an adaptogenic coffee instead. Our Coffee Fix product is a gluten-free herbal coffee replacement that tastes just like coffee, minus the caffeine, acidity, and bitterness.
Our adaptogenic coffee blends the following ingredients:
- Ashwagandha is a highly revered medicinal herb that strengthens the immune system, providing excellent recovery after sickness
- Holy basil is known for its stress-reducing properties, and can also help regenerate the adrenal glands
- Triphala is an Ayurvedic herbal remedy that provides additional nourishment to the adrenal glands, thanks to its high vitamin C content
- Tribulus helps improve athletic performance, and may help reduce blood sugar levels and cholesterol
- Dandelion root promotes better liver health
- Shilajit is an herb and mineral formulation that has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine. It is rich in fulvic acid, which is high in antioxidants
Our adaptogenic coffee is a great way for coffee lovers to continue enjoying the rich and full-bodied flavor of coffee without all the negative side effects. You can learn more about it here.
Have a “Not-To-Do” List
Hacking your sleep and getting into healthier morning habits will be all for naught if you continue to sabotage yourself by continuing to indulge in bad ones throughout the day.
You lose a lot of time and productivity if you start your mornings scrolling mindlessly through your phone or sitting down to work later than you’re meant to.
A quick way to get control back in the mornings is to commit to the opposite of a “to-do” list: a “not to-do” list, if you will.
Here are a few suggestions of things that you may want to consider not spending time on during the day:
- Don’t check your work email before work hours.
- Don’t check social media during work hours.
- Don’t start working later than you’re supposed to.
- Don’t drink too much coffee.
- Don’t forget to drink water.
- Don’t bring your work home with you.
- Don’t sleep past the bedtime you’ve set for yourself.
Having a “not to-do” list helps eliminate toxic behaviors and patterns that you may have gotten used to. This can help clear a path towards days that are filled with positive energy, fulfillment, and success.
