Which Colostrum Is Easiest on a Sensitive Stomach?

By Jess Nov 3rd 2026

Which colostrum is easiest on a sensitive stomach? Look for a plain, unflavored powder that's low in lactose, collected from the first milking, and made without sweeteners, gums or fillers. Then start small, with half a teaspoon a day.

I'm Jess, and "will this bother my stomach?" is one of the questions I hear most about colostrum. Here's what actually matters on the label.

1. Lactose: less is better

Colostrum comes from milk, so it carries some lactose. Our Liposomal Colostrum is about 10% lactose by weight, which works out to roughly half a gram in a teaspoon. Many customers who avoid regular milk tell us it sits fine with them.

One customer wrote that she has dairy and soy sensitivities and this "has helped my stomach" so much. Another said, "I don't tolerate cows milk" and still blends it into her smoothies.

One note: if you have a true milk-protein allergy, rather than trouble with lactose, colostrum isn't a fit.

2. First-milking colostrum and A2 casein

Casein is the main protein in milk. Some people find A1 casein harder on digestion than A2. Colostrum taken in the first few hours after a calf is born is A2; A1 shows up later, around 12 hours after calving.

Ours is collected within the first six hours, from Grade A US dairies, after the calves get their share first.

3. Nothing extra

Flavors, sweeteners, gums and fillers are common stomach triggers. Ours has two ingredients: colostrum and sunflower lecithin. It's dried below 130°F and isn't defatted or standardized, so it stays close to the original.

4. Liposomal or plain?

Our Liposomal Colostrum is coated in a thin layer of sunflower lecithin. That coating helps it mix smoothly into liquid instead of clumping, and it's designed to help the colostrum make it past stomach acid.

If you'd rather keep it simple, Original Colostrum 12oz is the plain version. Either way, the label rules above apply.

5. Powder vs capsules

Powder lets you start with a tiny amount and adjust by the pinch, which matters with a sensitive stomach. Capsules lock you into a fixed dose. That's why we sell colostrum as a powder.

How to start if your stomach is sensitive

  1. Take half a teaspoon a day for the first week.
  2. Mix it into a smoothie, or take it straight. Lynn R. says it "helps me a lot with digestion."
  3. Work up to 1 teaspoon. The label allows up to 4 times a day.
  4. Many customers take it at night or first thing in the morning; try both and see which feels better.

Quick answers

Does colostrum have lactose? Yes, a small amount. Ours is about 10% by weight.

Can I take it on an empty stomach? Most people can. If you notice anything, take it with food.

What does it taste like? Moriah W. says it "tastes great on its own or added into things."

Is it grass-fed? The cows graze on pasture when weather allows and eat forage, hay and grass. It isn't certified organic, because there isn't steady organic colostrum supply.
