Our Icelandic Sea Salt: Down to the Details
Raw Revelations Icelandic Sea Salt doesn’t just contain more potassium and magnesium than other forms of sea salt (more on that in a minute); it’s also formulated to a higher standard of quality in keeping with our commitment to clean supplements .
Here’s what you should know.
Where Does Our Icelandic Sea Salt Come from?
Our Icelandic Sea Salt comes from the geothermal pools in the wild north of Iceland. As the water in these pools is heated and evaporates, the flake salt is left behind, which is then collected.
What’s in It?
Just iceland flake salt; the flake salt itself contains all 84 essential trace elements that your body needs to thrive. This list includes but is not limited to calcium, phosphorus, fluorine, copper, sulfur, iron and manganese (among others) which are vital to the body’s processes.
What’s Not in It?
As with all of our clean supplements, there are no additives or fillers in our Icelandic sea salt. It is nutrient rich and doesn’t contain anything other than what nature intended. It has also been tested for heavy metals and found to be much lower than other natural salts. Worried about microplastics? Our salt is micron filtered to 10 microns to remove potential contaminants such as these from ocean water that is already among the cleanest in the world.
Magnesium and Potassium
One of the ways in which our Icelandic Flake Salt really sets itself apart is with its magnesium and potassium content, both of which are essential elements used in so many of the body’s functions.
In fact, our Icelandic Sea Salt naturally contains 3 times more magnesium and 2 times more potassium than “regular” sea salt.
First let’s talk about magnesium. Magnesium is essential to numerous body and system functions, including but not limited to:
- The formation (and regeneration) of healthy teeth and bone tissue
- Cellular energy production and regulation
- Nutrient regulation (magnesium helps with regulation and absorption of various minerals and vitamins)
- Neurological function, muscle performance and muscle recovery
- DNA synthesis
- Blood pressure and blood sugar regulation
- Immune system function and support
- Heart health and function
- Sleep cycle regulation
Magnesium is present in every organ in the body and is of special importance to cardiac and skeletal muscle function.
In fact, due to its roles in electrolyte balance, energy production and muscle contraction, healthy magnesium levels are absolutely essential to overall muscle performance and healing. Magnesium also serves an anti-inflammatory role within the body, reducing recovery times and potentially minimizing chronic inflammation.
It’s enough to say also that magnesium is essential to overall cardiac function and heart health, but it’s also been demonstrated that higher levels of magnesium in the body are also associated with lower incidences of cardiovascular disease.
Magnesium is also one of the potential keys to wellness with respect to a healthy sleep cycle. Magnesium plays important roles in sleep onset, duration, and overall sleep quality.
Magnesium also plays a critical role in immune system function and support; for instance, magnesium is a cofactor in the synthesis of immunoglobulin and may even produce potential anti-cancer properties.
As far as potassium is concerned, that is another essential element that, like magnesium, plays a central role in many of the body’s system functions. Like magnesium, potassium is implicated in:
- Muscular function
- Nerve function and heart health
- Bone health
- Blood pressure regulation
- Fluid level regulation
Potassium is one of the most essential elements for maintaining cell function and is implicated in the chemical pathway that enables muscle contraction. On top of that, healthy potassium levels are associated with correspondingly healthy muscle mass.
Potassium also has a commonality with magnesium in that it supports optimum bone health. Among other roles, potassium is implicated in osteoblast production and collagen synthesis, both of which are necessary for healthy bone formation.
Low potassium diets (which are prevalent in the West) are associated with increased sodium sensitivity, which is believed to be a contributor to increasing rates of hypertension in the country. With that said, there is also evidence that potassium supplementation can directly contravene high-blood pressure.
Following, and as it is with magnesium, healthy levels of potassium are also associated with lower levels of cardiovascular disease.
Potassium intake can also help regulate sodium levels in the body, which indirectly has the effect of reducing fluid retention. It follows that healthy potassium levels are associated with healthy fluid balances because potassium promotes diuresis and natriuresis.
All in all, with such rich constituencies of potassium and magnesium, our Icelandic Flake Salt helps promote wellness and overall health.
