Our Superfood Coffee, by the Ingredients

It’s no secret that despite being one of the most popular beverages in the country (and the world) coffee is not without its drawbacks. Excess caffeine consumption induces anxiety, insomnia, and has plenty of other undesirable effects.

But abstaining from caffeine is just one of the many good reasons to give our superfood coffee replacement a go. Here are some of the potential benefits, by ingredient.

Starting with a Strong Foundation: Chicory Root

Chicory root is often roasted and used to produce herbal coffee replacements, because it is naturally caffeine-free, has a smoother, less bitter flavor, and because it is less acidic than actual coffee.

Even so, this only scratches the surface of the potential benefits of chicory root coffee replacements. For one thing, chicory has a strong, earthy, nutty flavor that is not entirely dissimilar from coffee - so if you love the rich, roasty taste of your morning joe, chicory offers a suitable alternative.

On top of that, chicory is not as bitter as coffee, and is packed with tons of antioxidants that help prevent oxidative stress; some may even be able to help regulate blood sugar. It also contains inulin, a prebiotic that supports overall digestive health and wellness.

Chicory also shows promise as an anti-inflammatory, immunomodulator, anti-diabetic, even an anti-tumor agent. The benefits go on and on.

Adaptogenic Additions

While chicory root is one of the star players of our superfood coffee, it’s only the tip of the iceberg. Our Coffee Fix also contains the following super ingredients.

Holy Basil

Holy basil, like chicory, is associated with a wide range of health benefits. Among these are:

Ashwagandha

Long used in ayurveda, ashwagandha is a potent adaptogen that may be able to help mitigate the effects of stress and anxiety; it may even be able to help users get better sleep.

Ashwagandha may also possess certain anti-inflammatory properties, which can help ease joint pain in some individuals, particularly those afflicted by arthritis.

Some research also indicates that ashwagandha may exhibit certain cardioprotective properties and may be able to help support healthy blood pressure levels as well.

Dandelion Root

Not just highly nutritious (it’s packed with vitamins and minerals), dandelion root may also confer a variety of health benefits on those that take it as a supplement.

For instance, dandelion root is completely loaded with antioxidants, such as beta-carotene. All of these help fight against oxidative stress, but the latter in particular helps protect against cell damage.

It’s also packed with polyphenols that help prevent oxidative damage and the resulting complications associated with chronic inflammation.

Dandelion root may also help modulate insulin production, and so its supplementation may be effective at helping to control blood sugar levels.

Shilajit

Sometimes referred to as mineral tar or resin, shilajit is a dark, sticky, tar-like substance procured from high-mountain rocks. Primarily of biological origin, it is well-known for its many purported benefits.

Apparently, this interesting substance is renowned for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and it may be able to reduce stress as well.

Among its lesser known potential properties are that it may serve as an antiviral agent, reduce loss of bone density, and even possibly interfere with the proliferation of cancer cells. Specifically, it is a potentiator for chemotherapeutic drugs.

Triphala

Triphala is a mixture of dried fruits that like some of the other ingredients mentioned here is also used in ayurvedic medicine.

First off, triphala is rich in flavonoids, vitamin C, polyphenols, and a whole bunch of other powerful antioxidants, so it is implicated in oxidative stress reduction. Like shilajit, it may also possess certain anticancer properties.

While not confirmed in humans, certain studies in mice show that triphala can help reduce visceral adiposity; meaning, it helps burn fat. This is good news, as it may be able to help support your weight loss goals.

Tribulus

Tribulus terrestris, also known as puncture vine, is a spiny plant, the extracts of which are said to carry a variety of health benefits.

For instance, tribulus may produce an antihypertensive mechanism - that is, it may help counteract high blood pressure. For what it’s worth, it may also increase libido.
